What do I tell my mother?
My Catholic mother wants to know why i want to meditate and why not stick to prayers-- Preferably the kind that starts with "Our Lord" and end with "Amen". I tell her: "The difference between praying and meditating is the difference between talking and listening. So many people say they pray to God and that God does not answer their prayers. But do they ever stop and listen?"

Wow, Trilbu -- that's a brilliant response. I have a whole class of responses to that question, and a lot of them are pretty good, but this one is better than any of them.
The difference between one-way communication and two-way communication is something most people already understand. But most of us are never taught to think about communication with the divine as a two-way process. =)
Enjoying reading this wonderful blog--
